Building & Zoning Enforcement - More Info

The Chesterfield Township Building Department performs a variety of services for the residents of Chesterfield Township. The main purpose of the Building Department is to insure the health, safety and welfare of allcitizens in Chesterfield Township. The Building Department also oversees and inspects all construction, alterations and building projects within the township. Other functions are to review building plans, issue building permits, mechanical permits, electrical permits and plumbing permits and conduct inspections on work performed. Building permit fees are based on the value of the work being done; electrical, plumbing and mechanical fees are listed on each application. (click here for forms) The Building Department is responsible to enforce the current codes adopted by the State of Michigan. Copies of the codes are available through the office of Management Services of the State of Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes – www.cis.state.mi.us/bcc/forms.htm.

The Zoning Enforcement division enforces all Township Code of Ordinances for compliance to ensure and protect the public health, safety and welfare. (click here to view Code of Ordinances).

The Building & Zoning Enforcement Department currently has 13 full time employees, 2 full time Zoning Enforcement Officers and 1 co-op student. Their positions and duties are as follows:

One Building & Zoning Enforcement Administrator – Supervises all personnel within the Building & Zoning Enforcement Department.

One Assistant Building & Zoning Enforcement Administrator – Supervises all personnel in the absence of the Administrator, as well as distribution of daily inspections.

Three Building Inspectors – Perform inspections and plan reviews.

Two Plumbing/Heating Inspectors - Perform inspections and plan reviews.

One Electrical Inspector - Perform inspections and plan reviews.
