The Treasurer’s Office currently has 5 full time employees. Their positions and
duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- One Treasurer – The treasurer is an elected
official who along with statutory duties
oversees the Treasurer’s Department staff and
their functions.
- One Deputy Treasurer – The deputy treasurer
is appointed by the treasurer, is the collection
and investment coordinator and assists in the
management of staff within the Treasurer’s
Department.
- Three Clerical Assistants – Support staff for
the Treasurer’s Office receives and balances all
funds belonging to the Township, maintains
inventory of Township personal property,
maintains ledger for daily deposits, maintains
mortgage company information and processes the
daily sheet.
Property tax collection is the main function of the Chesterfield Township
Treasurer’s office. While the actual taxable values of property are determined
in the Assessor’s Office, the tax billings and collections originate in the
Treasurer’s office. All money transactions are processed through the Treasurer’s
office. Questions involving balances, amounts, dates and payments inquiries
concerning tax bills and special assessments, weed cuttings, clean ups,
sidewalks, and delinquent trash collections should be directed to this office.
Water bills, police business, Planning and Zoning, building permits, business
licenses, parks and recreations registrations are billed from each of the
respective departments and then payments are made to the Treasurer’s Department.
The Treasurer’s Office can only make changes to mortgage/escrow company
information, which must be requested in writing. If you have a name and address
change or correction, please notify the Assessor’s office at (586)-949-0400
press 8 then press 5.
Property taxes may be paid with a credit card by telephone or Internet only. To
Pay by telephone, call 1-800-272-9829. The jurisdiction code for Chesterfield
Township is 3298. To pay online, visit
www.chesterfieldtwp.org. There will be a nominal fee charged for this
service.
This service to pay taxes by way of credit card is provided by a third party
company named Official Payments Corporation. This independent third party will
charge the taxpayer a fee to use its services. However, unless or until taxes
are paid by the way of authorization from the credit card company, those taxes
remain the taxpayer's liability
Important Information for New Buyers: Tax bills are prepared in June and
November. The transfer of property during that period can result in tax bills
being directed to the previous owner rather than the new responsible party. The
U.S. Post Office directs mail based upon the addressee information on record.
Thus, they may forward tax bills to the former owner's new address. New
homeowners should call or stop in at the Treasurer's Office to make certain they
receive their tax bill.
2011 Collection Hours
Under State of Michigan law, Winter Taxes are due without penalty on or
before February 14. The Treasurer’s office will be Open for tax collection from
8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Also the offices will be closed on the
following scheduled holidays:

A 24-hour drop is box located at the Front Door. Payments dropped after
4:30pm will be posted on the next business day.
Reminder: Payments made on or after March 1, 2011 are under the jurisdiction of
the Macomb County Treasurer as delinquent taxes.
Reminder: Payments must be received in Township office on or before last tax
collection day.
