Proposed MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

OF

THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF CHESTERFIELD

July 19, 2011

The meeting was called to order by Supervisor Lovelock at 1:30 p.m. in the Charter Township of Chesterfield Municipal Offices at 47275 Sugarbush, Chesterfield, MI 48047.

Present: Supervisor Lovelock, Clerk Uglis, Treasurer Hartman

Trustees: DeMuynck, Ficht, Bell

Also Present: Deputy Clerk Wurmlinger

Motion by DeMuynck, seconded by Ficht to approve the Agenda as submitted.

Ayes: All

Nays: None MOTION CARRIED

Supervisor Lovelock stated the procedure for interviews to select the top candidates for second interviews to fill the vacant position of Board Trustee would consist of the following;

The Supervisor would ask each candidate the same four questions. Each board member could ask two additional questions. The same questions would be asked of each candidate for the position. Follow-up questions could be asked of the candidate based on the letter of interest and resume submitted by the candidates or their answer to a specific standard question.

All candidates would remain out of the Board Meeting Room until after their interview.

Only the Board members would ask questions.

Each candidate would have two minutes at the end of their interview to make a statement.

Each candidate would receive a written notice from the Supervisor stating whether they advanced to the second series of interviews.

The questions asked each candidate were as follows:

Do you have the time to dedicate to this position?

What makes you a better candidate then the other applicants? Please explain.

Have you attended any Township Board meetings prior to this vacancy being announced?

Have you sat on any Township Boards Commissions or Committees?

What made you apply for this position?

What is the number one issue you would like to see the board change or address?

Have you decided to seek a position on the board in 2012, and if yes which position?

Are you aware of the time commitment required of a Board Member?

Can you make an unbiased decision that will benefit the Township, regardless of pressure you might receive from outside parties?

Have you ever had a disagreement with any current board member regarding any issue and expressed it in verbal or written correspondence?

Have you ever been part of any group or political association who supported or opposed any board member? If so who did you oppose or support.

As a board member you will receive certain items that must be confidential. Will you have a problem with that?

As a board member you will receive an agenda board packet. If you have a question that can’t be answered by the supporting documents will you take your inquires a step further before making a decision?

The following residents were interviewed. Kristine Walsh, Joe Miller,

Richard Hoover, Marvin Stepnak, Hank Anderson, Stephen Krull,

Jill Lezotte, Anthony Bertoni, Paul Miller, Jerry Alexie, John McCleary, Galen Johnson, Paula Frame, Patrick Militello and Robert Kohler.

The board conducted an open vote on each candidate with the candidate receiving at least four affirmative votes being selected to interview a second time on Monday, July 25, 2011 beginning at 4:30pm.

Motion by Lovelock, seconded by Uglis to invite the following individuals to a second interview: Marvin Stepnak, Jill Lezotte, Paul Miller, Jerry Alexie and Patrick Militello.
