UPDATED 8/29/2019Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) has begun construction on the Salt River Bridge Replacement project. Jefferson Avenue is currently closed; with a re-opening date of October 27, 2019. Jefferson
will be closed in this area to both vehicle and boat traffic and alternate ways around will be advised.
The design plans approved by MDOT illustrate the overall underclearance of the proposed structure is higher than the existing; in Span 1, the increase is between 6” and 10 1/2”.
Aesthetically speaking, the abutments and pier will have the
simulated stone veneer, decorative bridge lighting, galvanized black painted
3-tube rail with pickets, and the remaining exposed concrete surfaces painted

Update 8.29.2019 - Jefferson Avenue from the Salt River Bridge north to Killewald Street will see a complete reconstruction; approximately 600 L.F. of Jefferson Avenue including the Meldrum Road intersection and existing driveways. The estimated project start date is September 4th with an estimate open to traffic date of October 27, 2019. Update 2.22.2019 - Tentative construction date to begin in MAY with completion anticipated late October 2019.
